ACCC consumer guarantees
The Australian Consumer Law (ACL) that entitles buyers to a product that is of acceptable quality, fit for purpose, and matches its description.
Category: Certifications, Safety & Standards
The Australian Consumer Law guarantees administered by the ACCC — protections every customer has when buying goods or services in Australia. Includes the right to acceptable quality, fitness for purpose, accurate description, and reasonable durability.
Why it matters — Consumer guarantees apply on top of any warranty offered by the manufacturer or seller. Even if a warranty has expired, items must still be fit for purpose and durable for a reasonable time — which for an espresso machine usually means years.
Good to know
- Major faults (machine doesn't work as described, has a safety issue) entitle you to a refund or replacement, not just a repair.
- Keep your purchase records — proof of purchase makes consumer guarantee claims faster and simpler.
