Acoustic/visual dosing cue
A beep or light signal that alerts the barista when a target weight or time is hit.
Category: Extraction — Measurement & Science
A beep, light, vibration, or screen signal from a smart scale or grinder that tells the barista when a target weight or time has been hit.
Why it matters — These cues let you focus on what you're doing — pulling the lever, stopping the grinder, stopping the shot — without staring at the scale display. The result is more consistent workflow at speed.
Good to know
- Set the cue early — typically 0.3 g before target weight — to account for the few drops still in flight when you stop the pump.
- Some scales (Acaia Lunar, Felicita) can connect via app and adjust cue timing automatically based on past shots.
