AeroPress inverted method
Starting with the AeroPress upside-down so no water drips out during steep time, then flipping and plunging.
Category: Brew Methods — Non-Espresso
A technique where you assemble the AeroPress upside-down with the plunger at the bottom, brew with the chamber on top, then flip it onto a cup or server before plunging.
Why it matters — Standard orientation lets water start dripping through immediately, which limits steep time. Inverted holds all the water in contact with the grounds until you flip, giving you full control over immersion time.
Good to know
- Most World AeroPress Championship recipes are inverted for this reason.
- Have the cup or server ready before you flip — the seal isn't perfect and gravity will pull water through within a few seconds of inversion.
