AeroPress standard method

The traditional technique — plunger in filter, coffee in chamber, brew, plunge.

Category: Brew Methods — Non-Espresso

The original technique as designed: filter and cap on the bottom, chamber up, coffee inside the chamber, water poured in, plunger pressed straight down onto a cup or server.

Why it matters — Standard orientation is faster, simpler, and good enough for everyday brewing. The early dripping doesn't ruin the cup — it just shortens steep time slightly compared to inverted.

Good to know

  • A short bloom (30 seconds with just enough water to saturate the grounds) before adding the full pour improves clarity.
  • Press slowly — 20–30 seconds of steady pressure produces a cleaner cup than a fast plunge.
