Bar mat
A rubber mat that lives on the bar under the group to catch drips and spills.
Category: Accessories & Barista Tools
A rubber mat that lives on the bar under the group head to catch drips, splashes, and the occasional knocked-over portafilter. Most are food-grade silicone or rubber, around 30–60 cm long, with a ribbed or contoured surface so liquid runs off rather than pooling.
Why it matters — In a café, a bar mat protects the bench, keeps the workspace looking clean during service, and prevents fine coffee dust building up where customers can see it. At home, it saves you constantly wiping the bench after every shot.
Good to know
- Lift and rinse it once a day in a café, weekly at home — coffee oils build up underneath.
- Silicone lasts longer than rubber and doesn't stain as quickly.
