Batch brew
Automated drip coffee — a machine heats water to temperature and delivers it over a larger bed of coffee (usually 500ml–2L).
Category: Brew Methods — Non-Espresso
Coffee brewed in larger quantities (usually 1–3 litres) using a commercial filter brewer or a programmable machine — pre-set ratios, temperatures, and pour patterns produce consistent batches without manual pouring.
Why it matters — Batch brew is how most cafés serve filter coffee at volume. It's also how many specialty cafés make their "single origin of the day" — a great coffee brewed at scale, ready to pour quickly during service.
Good to know
- Quality batch brewers (Marco SP9, Fetco, Curtis, Wilbur Curtis) get very close to manual pour-over quality with the right grind and recipe.
- A well-brewed batch holds up for 30–60 minutes in an insulated server; after that, oxidation flattens it.
