Bellows

A rubber or silicone bulb that fits over the hopper opening of a single-dose grinder, used to purge residual grounds from the burr chamber.

Category: Grinders — Adjustment & Dosing

A rubber or silicone pump that pushes air through the grinder chute to clear retained grounds. Common on single-dose grinders (Niche Zero, DF64) or as an aftermarket addition.

Why it matters — Bellows are the simplest way to reduce grinder retention. After each grind, two or three squeezes pushes residual grounds out of the chute, leaving the path clean for the next dose.

Good to know

  • Use the bellows after the grinder stops, not during — pushing air through the burrs while they spin can affect grind distribution.
  • Replace the rubber every 1–2 years; bellows dry out and crack over time.
