Capacitor
Energy-storage component used to start vibration pumps and run motors — fails closed or fails open and your machine won't pump.
Category: Pumps & Pressure
An electrical component that stores and releases energy — used in espresso machines on vibe pumps (to manage start-up surge), on AC grinder motors (to provide starting torque), and elsewhere in control circuits.
Why it matters — A failed capacitor is one of the most common reasons a pump or motor refuses to start. The symptom is typical: the device hums but doesn't run, or struggles to start.
Good to know
- Capacitors are inexpensive and easy to swap if you're comfortable with basic electronics.
- Always discharge a capacitor before handling — even a small one can hold a charge that delivers a memorable shock.
