Coffee canister (airtight container)
A sealed container (often with a valve or vacuum system) for storing roasted beans.
Category: Accessories & Barista Tools
A sealed container for storing roasted beans, designed to keep them as fresh as possible after the bag is opened. Better canisters use a one-way valve, a vacuum pump, or a hard-sealing lid to limit how much oxygen reaches the beans.
Why it matters — Oxygen is what stales coffee fastest. Once a roast bag is opened, the clock starts — and a good airtight canister noticeably slows the loss of aroma and sweetness over the next 2–4 weeks.
Good to know
- Store the canister out of direct sunlight and away from heat (not on top of the espresso machine).
- Don't freeze beans inside a canister unless it's fully airtight — condensation does more damage than oxygen.
