Cold brew
Coffee steeped in cold or room-temperature water for 8–24 hours, producing a smooth, low-acid concentrate.
Category: Brew Methods — Non-Espresso
Coffee brewed by steeping coarse grounds in cold or room-temperature water for 12–24 hours, then filtering. Different from iced coffee (hot brew over ice) and from cold drip (slow drip through grounds).
Why it matters — Cold brew produces a smoother, less acidic cup with more body and chocolate notes. Long contact time at low temperature extracts different compounds than hot brewing — the cup is mellower but also less aromatic.
Good to know
- Standard cold brew ratio is around 1:8 coffee-to-water — pulled as a concentrate, then diluted to taste before serving.
- Store cold brew refrigerated and drink within 7–10 days. Beyond that, flavour fades.
