Declumper

A wire mesh or perforated screen in the grinder chute that breaks up clumps of ground coffee before they hit the basket.

Category: Grinders — Adjustment & Dosing

A screen or sieve fitted in the grinder chute that breaks up grind clumps as they fall toward the basket. Sometimes integrated into dosing cups or as standalone inserts.

Why it matters — Modern grinders produce clumps from static and oils, especially with light roasts. A declumper breaks them mechanically so the dose hits the basket as uniform particles.

Good to know

  • Declumpers complement WDT but don't replace it — WDT stirs in place, declumpers break in flight.
  • Mesh size matters: too fine and grounds back up in the chute; too coarse and clumps slip through.
