Doserless (on-demand)
A grinder that grinds directly into the portafilter on demand, with no intermediate dosing chamber. Usually triggered by a button or a portafilter sensor.

A grinder design where each pull triggers a fresh grind directly into the portafilter, with no intermediate storage chamber. Usually controlled by a button, a timer, or a weight-triggered scale.
Why it matters — Doserless is the modern standard. Grounds are fresher, waste is lower, and the workflow is cleaner. Almost every prosumer and commercial grinder built since 2010 is doserless.
Good to know
- Doserless grinders need a stable portafilter rest or holder — otherwise dosing requires you to hold the portafilter steady for several seconds.
- Pair with a smart scale for grind-by-weight precision; pair with a timer dial for grind-by-time consistency.
