Energy rating
An efficiency rating — standby power draw, warm-up time, heat retention.
Category: Certifications, Safety & Standards
A measure of how much electrical energy an espresso machine consumes — standby (idle) draw, peak heating power, and recovery time after shots all factor in.
Why it matters — Most espresso machines are turned on all day (commercial) or for several hours daily (home). Idle consumption adds up. An insulated boiler, an accurate PID, and an Eco mode can each cut idle power significantly.
Good to know
- A typical prosumer dual-boiler machine draws 1500–2200 W when heating, dropping to 100–250 W at idle.
- Smart plugs and scheduled-on features on app-controlled machines let you only heat the machine when you need it.
