Etching
Using a tool (latte art pen, skewer) to draw patterns in the foam surface.
Category: Milk & Latte Art
Using a fine tool — a latte art pen, a skewer, or a thin spoon — to draw or add detail to the foam surface after the main pattern has been free-poured.
Why it matters — Etching extends what's possible beyond free-pour. You can add signatures, facial features on animal designs, or full illustrations on the foam canvas.
Good to know
- Work fast — foam definition softens within 30–60 seconds.
- Dip the pen in espresso for darker contrast lines, or chocolate sauce for richer detail.
