Grind by weight
An on-demand grinder with an integrated scale under the portafilter cradle, stopping the motor when the target weight is reached.

A grinder workflow where the grinder is paired with a scale (built-in or external) that stops the grind once the target weight is reached. Different from grind-by-time, which uses a programmed duration.
Why it matters — Grind by weight gives the most accurate dose. Variations in bean density, moisture, and burr wear don't affect the result — the grinder grinds until the target weight is hit, regardless.
Good to know
- Built-in grind-by-weight is common on prosumer and commercial grinders (Eureka Mignon Libra, Mahlkönig Peak, Mythos MYG).
- External setups use a Bluetooth-connected scale that triggers the grinder to stop — works with most modern grinders.
