Heating Element Gasket
Sealing washer between the heating element flange and the boiler — the slow drip behind the panels is almost always this gasket.
Category: Boilers & Heating
The flat rubber, fibre, or silicone seal between the heating element flange and the boiler wall. Compressed under bolts when the element is fitted.
Why it matters — The element gasket holds the boiler pressure seal where the element passes through the wall. A failed gasket leaks water or steam — depending on whether the boiler is liquid-filled or steam-pressurised at that point.
Good to know
- Replace whenever the element is removed for service — never reuse an old gasket; the compression set is permanent.
- Material matters: silicone tolerates higher temperatures than rubber and lasts longer in steam boilers.
