IMS screen / competition screen
A precision-etched shower screen (or basket) made by IMS in Italy, with laser-drilled holes and tighter tolerances than stock stamped screens. The "Competition" line is used by most World Barista Championship competitors.

A precision-manufactured shower screen made by Italian company IMS (Industria Materiali Stampati). Laser-cut holes in a uniform pattern, often with a wide-angle dispersion profile, designed to distribute water more evenly than stock screens.
Why it matters — Upgrading from a stock shower screen to an IMS competition screen often improves cup consistency noticeably, especially on E61 machines. Even water distribution across the puck reduces channelling and improves extraction uniformity.
Good to know
- Match the screen size and shape to your group (E61, La Marzocco, etc.).
- Clean IMS screens the same way as stock screens — Cafiza soak weekly, regular brushing after each session.
