Leaks from group

Water visibly escaping around the portafilter during brewing — running down the spouts of the group rather than into the basket.

Why it matters — Almost always a failed or compressed portafilter gasket. The seal is gone, and the group can't hold pressure against the basket. Replace the gasket and the symptom usually disappears.

Good to know

• Gaskets typically last 12 months on home use, 3–6 months in a café.
• If a new gasket doesn't fix the leak, the group seat or basket rim may be damaged — book a service.
