Portafilter sneezing

A small puff of coffee grounds ejected from the portafilter when you unlock it after a shot — sometimes with an audible hiss.

Why it matters — Indicates the 3-way solenoid valve released pressure too slowly, or didn't release it fully, so there's still residual pressure in the group when you twist the handle out.

Good to know

• Clean (or service) the solenoid valve. Coffee oils gum the valve over time and slow the release.
• If you're hearing a noticeable hiss when unlocking, it's worth servicing soon — solenoids that drip while idle are a step away from this symptom.
