Pour-over
Any method where hot water is poured in a controlled manner over grounds in a filter cone.
Category: Brew Methods — Non-Espresso
Any brewing method where hot water is poured by hand in a controlled manner over coffee grounds held in a filter cone, with the brewed coffee dripping into a cup or server below.
Why it matters — Pour-over is the reference method for filter coffee. It gives the brewer the most control — pour rate, bloom, agitation, water distribution — and rewards good technique with clarity that other methods can't match.
Good to know
- The four most common pour-over drippers are the Hario V60, Kalita Wave, Chemex, and Origami — each behaves differently.
- A gooseneck kettle and an accurate scale make pour-over consistent. A standard kettle and eye-balling rarely produce the same brew twice.
