Scale (timer scale)

A precision scale with an integrated stopwatch — usually with auto-start triggered by the first drop of espresso falling. Common brands include Acaia, Felicita, Timemore, and Brewista.

Why it matters — A timer scale lets you weigh the shot and time it on the same display. The auto-start feature removes the need to fumble with a separate stopwatch — the scale times the shot from the moment flow begins.

• Auto-start sensitivity can be adjusted on most scales — set it so the timer starts on the first drop, not on portafilter movement.
