Semi-saturated group
A hybrid design where the group is heated by a dedicated element or circulating water from the brew boiler, offering better stability than a basic HX group but at lower cost than a fully saturated group.
Category: Espresso Machine — Groups & Brew Path
A hybrid group design where some of the brew boiler's water surrounds the group — improving stability over E61 — but the group isn't fully embedded in the boiler. Used by some commercial and high-end prosumer machines.
Why it matters — Semi-saturated groups bridge the gap between E61 (thermosiphon, cheaper) and fully saturated (in-boiler, more expensive). Temperature stability is better than E61 but doesn't quite match a true saturated group.
Good to know
- Found on machines like the ECM Synchronika, Lelit Elizabeth, and some Rocket commercial models.
- A good compromise for users who want better stability than E61 without paying full saturated-group prices.
