Shower Screen
Perforated disc at the underside of the group that disperses water evenly across the puck during extraction.
Category: Espresso Machine — Groups & Brew Path
The small perforated metal disc inside the group head, positioned above the puck, that distributes water across the basket. Usually held by a single screw or by a friction fit against the dispersion block.
Why it matters — The shower screen is what determines how evenly water reaches the puck. A clogged or worn screen produces uneven extraction; a clean, precision screen produces consistent flow.
Good to know
- Replace every 6–12 months for home, every 3 months for café. The cost is small; the impact on shot quality is significant.
- Clean weekly with a Cafiza soak — wipe oils off the underside after every session.
