Single dosing

Weighing out exactly one shot's worth of beans (e.g., 18g) and loading them into the grinder for each shot — no hopper.

Category: Grinders — Adjustment & Dosing

A grinding workflow where you weigh out one dose of beans, drop them in the grinder, and grind only that amount. Different from hopper grinding, where a large quantity sits in the grinder long-term.

Why it matters — Single dosing keeps beans fresh (no hopper exposure to oxygen), lets you switch beans without contaminating the next dose, and produces zero retention if the grinder is well designed.

Good to know

  • Best paired with a grinder designed for single dosing (Niche Zero, DF64, Lagom Mini) — low retention is the key feature.
  • Add a few drops of water (RDT) to the beans before grinding to reduce static and improve dose consistency.
