Zero point
The grind setting at which the burrs just barely touch (make contact without coffee).
Category: Grinders — Burrs & Build
The grind setting at which the burrs just touch each other — making contact with no coffee in between, producing a soft chirp. Used as the reference for all coarser settings.
Why it matters — Knowing your zero point is essential for burr alignment, calibrating grind adjustment after a burr swap, and troubleshooting grinder behaviour.
Good to know
- Always find zero with the grinder running, not stationary — running gives a clear chirp.
- Mark or note the zero position. After a burr change, the new zero may be in a different place; recalibrate before grinding.
